I ventured into the new location of The Salvation Army Family Store in Conway finally. I’ve been wanting to shop there since they moved in, but now that they are well settled, I figured now was the best time. One of my students calls it “Salva” for short because she doesn’t like saying she’s shopping at The Salvation Army. It gives it a unique, exclusive feel and that’s exactly how I felt inside this store. The “Salva” is not only located on 3rd Avenue in downtown Conway, but it has been setup much like an exclusive boutique. The window displays are a sample of what’s inside. Furniture decorated with place settings.
The store includes just about everything you’d typically find at a second-hand store. They had men’s clothes, women’s clothes, kids clothes, jewelry, purses, scarves, books, furniture, and housewares. They did lack maternity clothes and kids toys. I had heard from friends that pricing wasn’t that great. Perhaps they are trying to keep up with the fact they are located in prime real estate in downtown Conway. Having been to several second-hand stores, I’d say the pricing was not absolutely terrible and it depended on what you were buying. The books were only 50 cents for kids and $1.25 for adults. The housewares and knick knacks were anywhere from $1-$10. The clothes, except for dresses and coats, were $5 each. Compare that to Goodwill and yes, Goodwill is a couple dollars cheaper. Again, it depends what you’re getting. Goodwill tends to have a lot to search through and it can take hours to shop there. This “Salva” isn’t that big and the selection is a bit more specific, perhaps to an older crowd. My college students said they didn’t find anything that was their style or taste. The kids clothing section was decent, again just not a lot of selection. I was fairly impressed with books, both kids and adults, so I picked up $6 worth.
The store as a whole is worth a peek. Maybe you’ll find a unique Christmas gift for yourself or a friend. The best thing they have going for them is the presentation at the store. Someone is doing a great job displaying the items for sale and it’s fun to browse.
The Salvation Army Family Store is located at 1029 3rd Avenue in downtown Conway. The store hours are Monday-Friday 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You may call the store at 843-248-3232. And just in case you are wondering, they so accept MasterCard and VISA, which is helpful for people like me who don’t carry cash.
